There is sunshine after rain........

Finally the sun is shinning again. We have had so much rain these last few months I'd forgotten what it was like to feel the sun on my face. All around our garden is mud, the paths around our cottage are full of deep muddy puddles, you can't go out unless your wearing your wellies and with it being so mild this winter, the weeds haven't died back, so my garden is all weeds and mud - very depressing! But today's sunshine has given me hope for the rest of the year ahead. I feel happy and optimistic again, I'm looking at the garden and planning planting schemes, vegetable beds, re-gravelling the paths and generally looking forward to the spring - it's amazing how uplifting a little bit of sunshine can be......

However, there is one good thing - we still have loads of crab apples, on the ground and in the trees, so early this morning I was able to fill a basket -  whilst enjoying the warmth of sun on my back.

When I have finished with the sun in the garden, I will take them into the house to make crab apple jelly.

To my way of thinking crab apples make a better jelly after they have been frosted and last night we had a clear sky with a hard frost - so these ones should be perfect. My fingers were frozen after I finished collecting them and they ached when warming up around a cup of hot tea.....

But I still sit outside, on the cold slate step, whilst drinking the hot cup of tea, listening to the robin and thrush singing in the early spring sunshine and I think about my plans for the garden and the year ahead...

Have a great day and get out and enjoy the sunshine if you can
