The Cyclades

We've just got back from a brilliant trip to the Cyclades - to be more precise ..... Mykonos - I was warned before we went that this was a 'party island' with beaches full of tourists all dancing the night (and day) away. But at this end of the season it was actually very quite. I don't think a saw a party the whole week! apart from a few weddings...

The streets were given back to the locals, the waiters and hotel staff had time to chat and it was all rather relaxed and laid back.

But - and this was the important thing for me - it was still hot!

I managed to get my fair share of sun bathing in and also a swim in the sea everyday.

The hotel we stayed at was out on a limb of the island and had everything you could wish for - some guests did seem to stay there the whole time - using the pool, the beach and eating at the various restaurants onsite - but we wanted to get out and explore the island .......  so we decided to hire a quad bike ......

I did have a go at driving the thing but I was a bit scary for other road users! so in the end I just hung onto the back of Andrew for dear life! Actually it was all rather good fun - I loved it!

As you can imagine I took loads and loads and load of photo's ......... and I'm still going through them at the moment..... so here are a few that will give you a taste of the island.......

I have no idea what this says - but it looks pretty!

The decor in our hotel room was all 'under the sea' loads of coral, seahorses and starfish

The sunsets were amazing - every night we had a glass of wine and watched the sun go down - perfect

And I really liked the coloured roofs of the little white mosques and chapels dotted all over the island.

Well, as I said just a few of the squillians of photo's I've taken and I haven't even mentioned all the different foods that we tried - so be prepared for loads of Greek influenced dishes coming you way!
