Teasels

Most of the flowers are going over in our garden, a few roses are still flowering along with some geraniums but all are looking a bit sad and soggy after the rain these last few days.....you get the feeling that the garden is winding down getting ready for the autumn and then the winter.....

However, the teasels are still looking good. They have self seeded all over the garden and I let them grow wherever they wish.....

I love the striking architectural character of the teasel. Even after flowering, their upright shape adds height and structure to the garden. And the steams remain upright whatever the weather throws at them.....

During the spring and the summer they attract the bees......

And during the winter the seed heads attract the Goldfinch

The seeds are held deep within the spikes, forcing the finches to stay for a while to feed - giving me time to watch them........

Goldfinches are one of my favorite birds ....... along with the puffin ....... it must be their crazy clown like colours ... they just make me smile .... which has to be a good thing....

( ..... I'm smiling just looking at their pictures....)
Have a great day
