My Amish Barn Star

Oh how I hate to admit I was wrong!

A few weeks before Christmas I made a basic rookie error and showed Andrew a picture of a beautiful metal Amish Barn Star - one that I had been coveting for a long time and I had decided that the time had come - I should order one from America......

'Have you seen the price?' he asked whilst jabbing a finger at the catalogue 'I could make you one of those easy'

And the next thing he was looking at the pictures, and asking technical questions - such as how big do you want it and where are you going to put it etc etc......oh and the all important question of 'why do you want/need one?'

to which I replied - 'I don't know.....I just do'..... succinct & to the point - that's me!

So after showing him a few more pictures - good old pinterest & google......
he was off and running with it all....

The drawing board was dusted off and plans were made.....

A paper pattern was cut and folded into shape.....

And then those patterns were used to cut out each 'pointy bit' - I'm sure there's a technical name for the branches of a star but........?????

Staples were used to hold the design together ......

And then it was laid out on the workshop floor to make sure it all fitted together....

Which it did!.....

Now all that happened one Sunday afternoon. The following day I went back to work and forgot all about it........so consequently no more pictures...........and really in my heart of hearts I didn't think it would get finished and I could secretly order one from America for next Christmas.....

Then I came home one evening and there standing in my Kitchen was this enormous white and perfect barn star just in time to add to the decorations.......

However, now Christmas is over I'm just wondering where to put it for the rest of the year..........

It's rather big.........in fact it's massive!

But they are meant to bring good luck .............so I'll keep it in the house and perhaps I'll hang it up on the wall over the stairs just to help 2015 along a bit..........although I suppose we could hang it on the barn......but that seems a bit obvious!
