A Drive Down West.......

Andrew has a new car! ....... He's like a kid at Christmas .......all I can tell you is - it's a dark silver colour, has four wheels, doesn't appear to have a handbrake! and is still shiny clean at the moment..... I'm sure, if your interested, Andrew could boar -sorry - I meant to say - tell you all about its 'specs' if you want to ask him!!!!

Anyway, new car to me means time to take a 'road trip' so with good load music on the stereo, a picnic in the back, sunglasses on and the sunroof open we headed 'down west' for the day last sunday.

As I have probably mentioned before, we live on the Devon and Cornwall border just by (and sometimes in) the river Tamar so although we live in Cornwall, for us a trip down to the far western point is quite a drive - but it's well worth it for the scenery, beaches and wonderful fresh clean air.....

Obviously, I took my camera so here are a few pics of our day......

We drove to one of our favourite places the tiny hamlet of Porthgwarra.......

 Every cottage here has character.......

and they even have a working red telephone box - probably one of only a few left in Britain.....

The scenery is stunning.....

We headed along the headlands for a walk before lunch......

there are little hidden, and often deserted, beaches dotted along the coast here. If your happy to have a march along the headland your reward can be a beautiful sandy beach all to yourself for the day!

From the top of the headlands you can look across to the next hamlet of St Levan's, their church is quite big but from here all you can see is the top of the bell tower - around here the churches are built tucked down in the valley - so they were unobserved from the sea to protect them from attack, which was an ever present threat, in the era they were built.

We finished up our headland walk back at the car where we took our picnic out to the beach to eat...

FYI our picnic consisted of olives, rye bread, cheeses, a dip and some cake......(this is a foodie blog after all! so here are some pictures of food)

all in all a really perfect day with a big thumbs up for the car ........

.......I wonder if I will ever get to drive it??
